The Border Between Summer and Autumn

The Border Between Summer and Autumn

“I love borders. August is the border between summer and autumn; it is the most beautiful month I know. Twilight is the border between day and night, and the shore is the border between sea and land. The border is longing: when both have fallen in love but still haven’t said anything. The border is to be on the way. It is the way that is the most important thing.” ― Tove Jansson

Tove Jansson is a Finnish author and illustrator who created the charming and beloved Moomins, a family of roundish fairy tale creatures who have adventures in a series of books. In 1966, Jansson received the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for her contribution to children’s literature.

Frankly, I don’t know much about Jansson but from what I have found in my little searches she seems to have lived this sort of beautiful, natural life full of flowers and islands and whimsical creatures that one could only encounter during a Swedish summer.
